Toys’ basic safety standards escape consumers

CECU, BEUC’s Spanish member has published the results of a new survey which demonstrates that a 1 in 2 Spanish consumers are not aware of the safety standards that toys must meet. Additionally, 40% of Spanish consumers do not know the meaning of the logo used on toys which are unsuitable for children of under 3 years of age.

CECU’s survey was conducted in the context of the project ‘Embark on a safe game’, funded by the Spanish Agency of Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition with the collaboration of the Spanish Association of Toy Manufacturers-AEFJ.

The objective of this project is to help consumers choose safe toys, as well as raise awareness about the negative implications of buying counterfeit toys.
