Introduction

Artificial intelligence

About

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) will be a defining feature of our markets and societies. Self-driving cars, home assistants, robo-advice in financial services may become the norm in a few years' time. Already now, consumers are surrounded by numerous devices connected with the internet. Intelligent, self-learning machines and software will use the vast amounts of data generated by these devices to make decisions and perform actions without human oversight. This will have major implications about how consumers make choices, how they interact with companies and who will be responsible when things go wrong.

AI can increase convenience for consumers. The EU's role will be to find answers to the many challenges it will pose for the safety and autonomy of European consumer and the protection of their rights.
