Privacy award for BEUC and dTest

BEUC NEWS - 14.02.2019

BEUC and its Czech member dTest have today received the “Edward Snowden Award” for their coordinated enforcement action against Google.

Based on new research published by BEUC’s Norwegian member Forbrukerrådet, seven consumer groups in December filed complaints against Google with their national data protection authorities.

The award was granted by Iuridicum Remedium, the host of the Czech Big Brother Award.

The jury cited the fact that location data, which reveals comprehensive information about the movement of the mobile phone and therefore its holder, is one of the most sensitive data internet companies or telecommunications service providers have about consumers. The jury also highlighted the coordinated action of filing complaints simultaneously in seven EU countries.

We are honoured with the recognition of our work. Our thanks go to our member organisations who have filed the complaint with their local data protection authorities.
