The Association was founded in 1999 under the name Bulgarian National Consumer Association. Since the beginning of 2010, after merging with Association Active Users, the name of the association became Bulgarian National Association ACTIVE CONSUMERS. The aim of Association is to protect the rights and interests of consumers by providing information, assistance, and representation at national and international level.

 

Success Stories

Every year Active Consumers performs research on different topics, that can be of help to consumers in choosing products or services.

Moisture content in cheese
Our test of white brine cheese in 2020 revealed a surplus of added water in 87% of the tested samples. As a result, the government adopted a new regulation setting limits for water content in Bulgarian white cheese.

Right of withdrawal in e-commerce
In 2021, the association’s activity partially focused on online shopping due to the impact of the Covid pandemic. As a result, an in-depth study was conducted on the right of withdrawal from a contract (the right to return goods when shopping online) of 128 online stores and the results were published. The initiative helped consumers avoid unfair online traders and enforce their rights successfully.

Help for energy poor consumers
During the course of 2021 and 2022 BNAAC implemented a complex of activities aimed to tackle energy poverty. The organization actively lobbied, set up a network of like-minded organizations, trained advisors and carried out a widespread campaign among consumers at risk of energy poverty. Following this, the government created an advisory committee on energy efficiency and energy poverty in which BNAAC become an active member.

Collaborative consumption among the elderly
A number of activities aimed at increasing sustainable collaborative consumption among the elderly people were implemented recently. The association team prepared and published a series of articles and training materials on the role of shared consumption and benefits for all generations. As a result, many elderly persons were integrated in the latest developments and become users of Collaborative Economy Platforms

No fake products for young generation
In 2022 numerous activities have been devoted to raise awareness among young consumers about the phenomenon of counterfeiting and the consequences of intellectual property rights (IPR) violations. Within a year, series of educational activities in schools were implemented to encourage young consumers to buy originals and recognize risk when shopping online.
