Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP)

Chinese toys, American cars and Tunisian shoes are just some of the products from an almost endless list that European consumers use on a daily basis. Therefore, trade policy has a big influence on our lives. Ongoing efforts to create a free-trade agreement between the EU and the US will particularly affect Europe’s consumers. This agreement will go beyond decisions on tariffs and potentially change the level of consumer protection when it comes to data protection, chemicals and food safety.

Together with our US counterparts from the Trans Atlantic Consumer Dialogue (TACD) we are closely following the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiations.

As consumers throughout Europe do not share the same level of awareness on TTIP, BEUC has developed communication tools in order to inform ordinary citizens on TTIP’s potential benefits and risks.

Our trade activities also focus on the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA), general trade policy and agreements with Canada and Japan.
