In a letter today to the chair of the group of national data protection supervisors, Ms Falque-Pierrotin, The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) voiced its concerns about the recent privacy policy changes of messaging app WhatsApp.

The call of European consumer groups comes on the back of an action of German consumer organisation and BEUC member vzbv (the German Federation of Consumer Organisations) which has requested WhatsApp to stop this update. In addition, the data protection commissioner of the city of Hamburg has ordered WhatsApp to stop collecting and storing data of German users.
