Event (24 June): Making electric cars convenient
BEUC NEWS - 07.06.2019
“Will I be able to charge an electric car as easily as I fill up a petrol car, everywhere I go?”. The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) will debate this question over lunch on June 24th.
Consumer groups from across Europe will present our network’s view on what is needed if electric cars are to move away from the sidelines and into the mainstream. This is not an insurmountable challenge but does require action at the EU, national and local level.
Convenience is a must. And this cannot stop at local or national borders within Europe’s Single Market. An Austrian person wishing to drive to Croatia in an electric car will only be able to do so effectively with accessible and easy charging possibilities on the way.
This is of course about the existence of charging infrastructure: How fast is it being rolled out, and where? It is also about using said infrastructure: Do charging points work? Are they properly maintained? Is payment straightforward? And can drivers make sense of pricing schemes?
Following a brief presentation of BEUC’s view, participants will be asked to join the debate.
