Many products consumers use in their daily life are imported into the EU. The rise of global e-commerce is causing these imports to grow rapidly. While consumers may think all imports are safe and comply with EU standards, the reality is more complicated. The BEUC network finds that a flow of non-compliant, dangerous, or low-quality products from outside the EU is ending up in people’s homes.

As consumer watchdog, we want to make sure that goods entering the EU are safe and comply with relevant legislation. As part of our activities to reach this goal, BEUC is a member of the ‘Trade Contact Group’ of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs (DG TAXUD).
