Renewable energy

About

Consumers broadly support the EU’s transition to renewable energy and are willing to act, yet are faced with a number of challenges.

BEUC works to put consumers at the centre of energy transition benefits. We promote the ‘additionality’ of ‘green’ electricity offers. This means that it must be ensured that a consumer choice for ‘green’ electricity positively impacts on the environment. To do so, clear criteria for ‘green’ electricity offers have to be established and misleading publicity or practices avoided, e.g. through independent quality labels. At the same time, consumers themselves should be enabled to become ‘prosumers’, reflecting the increasing attractiveness of self-generation and the rising share of locally produced renewables in the energy mix.
