Danish project on over-indebtedness of young people

The Danish Consumer Council has entered into a partnership with the foundation TrygFonden to jointly develop and organise ambitious, far-reaching and effective preventive measures against over-indebtedness of young people aged 18 to 30 years.

The project comprises three phases, and so far the foundation has granted 5 million DKK (app. €670,000) for the first phase, 2014 to 2015 which allows a project staff of three persons.
In the first phase we will identify the problem among young people and possible solutions. The identification will include a literature review of national and international knowledge about over-indebtedness and its prevention and focus group surveys, interviews with relevant stakeholders and a nationwide survey.

The identification shall result in a number of recommendations on which specific preventive measures can be based in phase two and three. If phase one goes well, it is the idea that the project will continue for eight more years.
