About

 

The Danish Consumer Council is an independent membership organisation which works for the promotion of sustainable and socially responsible consumption and efficient markets. Our purpose is to defend consumer rights and make consumers a power in the market.The Danish Consumer Council’s members include about 90,000 individuals and 27 organisations, but we work for all consumers, regardless of their resources, place of residence or political persuasion. We work to improve conditions for consumers through debate, awareness-raising and assistance to all those interested in the relationship between consumption and society.The Danish Consumer Council publishes Tænk (‘Think’), the leading consumer magazine in Denmark, including results of product testing.

 

Success Stories

The establishment of an effective Danish Alternative Dispute Resolution system and the Consumer Ombudsman Organisation in 1975. Developed over the years with now 18 branch specific complaint board established by Forbrugerrådet Tænk in cooperation with the relevant trade organisation.

Forbrugerrådet Tænk has since 2010 run a free debt counselling service for vulnerable consumers, which now has offices in 8 Danish cities. It is based on voluntary work from more than 100 advicers.

Establishment of an insolvency protection fund for airline passengers was obtained in 2015 after years of advocacy from Forbrugerrådet Tænk.
In 2015 Forbrugerrådet Tænk launched the app “Kemiluppen” (the chemical magnifying glass”) which provides information about hazardous substances in 15.000 cosmetics and care products as well as detergents, when you scan their barcode. Dec. 2022 it has been downloaded 600.000 times and has been used more than 15 million times.

In 2017 Forbrugerrådet Tænk launched the app. “Mit digitale Selvforsvar” in cooperation with Tryg Fonden. It issues warnings against current threats, scams etc. on the Internet.

Ceiling over the price of loans was obtained in Denmark in 2020 after years of strong advocacy from Forbrugerrådet Tænk.
