Making financial guidance available to more consumers

BEUC NEWS - 22.05.2017

BEUC is co-organising a seminar on financial guidance to look at the conditions necessary for it to become a widespread service on EU consumer markets. Financial guidance is about taking a person’s goals, risk profile and current lifestyle to establish a balanced financial plan to meet those goals, without recommending specific financial products.

The seminar is being co-organised with the Observatoire de l’Epargne Européenne (OEE) and Better Finance on 13 June 2017 in Brussels. Speakers include representatives of the Belgian financial regulator (FSMA), the European Commission, financial organisations and consumer groups.

The seminar is an opportunity to discuss a recently published study into financial guidance by the Financial Services Users Group (FSUG), an expert group working for the Commission. The report called for the development of guidance services, rather than advice which involves the recommendations of specific products to consumers.

Better Finance,  BEUC and the Observatoire de l’Epargne Européenne (OEE)
