Consumer rules enforcement will ensure a level playing field in Europe: Joint statement

This is a joint statement by BEUC, BusinessEurope and EuroCommerce calling for a swift review of the Consumer Protection Cooperation Regulation.

Consumer and business representatives are united in the view that this review would strengthen cross-border enforcement, ensure strong consumer protection and a level playing field for all traders serving EU consumers regardless of location.

Evidence has increasingly come to light that the enforcement of EU rules – especially around consumer protection – is insufficient and faces increasing obstacles, which are detailed in the joint statement. The European Commission has the power to propose an ambitious revision of the existing CPC regulatory framework, while remaining in line with the Commission’s simplification agenda.
