Fitness check on the car sector in Europe – Vehicles testing and emission scandal

BEUC EVENT - 28.09.2016

For years, consumer groups have rang the bell about misleading fuel consumption figures and it is now almost one year ago that the Volkswagen defeat device scandal first made the news. Therefore, BEUC is organising a conference to take stock about the consumer detriment, the ongoing investigations and what solutions exist to clean up the car sector in Europe.

With the help of three high-level panels we will discuss:

  • How national and European authorities have responded to the ongoing car scandals
  • What challenges EU consumers face to obtain redress
  • What changes are required so that the car sector focuses on consumers, the environment and future mobility needs.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Věra Jourová, Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality
  • Lowri Evans, Director General, DG Grow
  • Peter Mock, International Council on Clean Transportation
  • Kathleen Van Brempt, Member of European Parliament
  • Daniel Dalton, Member of European Parliament
  • Dirk Bosteels, Association for Emissions Control by Catalyst
  • Greg Archer, Transport & Environment
  • Erik Jonnaert, European Automobile Manufacturers' Association – ACEA

Venue: Silken Berlaymont hotel, 11-19 Boulevard Charlemagne, 1000 Brussels
