Simplification Omnibus for the chemical sector: BEUC follow-up comments to Commission Reality Check workshops

BEUC appreciates the opportunity to provide input to the planned simplification omnibus for the chemicals sector. In line with the simplification agenda, the omnibus should aim to deliver fast and visible improvements for people and businesses alike. We therefore regret that the concept notes which were circulated ahead of the two Reality Check workshops on 16 May almost exclusively focuses on reducing burdens for businesses whereas proposals that could benefit consumers are notably absent. We strongly encourage the European Commission to adopt a broader, balanced societal perspective on what should be achieved by simplifying EU chemicals rules such as enabling authorities to better implement and enforce legislation meant to protect consumers. We include our proposals to this effect in the document below.
