The consumer policy take on EU renewable energy legislation in the 2030s

About this publication

Continuing Europe’s shift to renewable energy is indispensable to better protect households against bill shocks caused by fossil fuels. This also protects the planet and improves people’s quality of life.

As the Renewable Energy Directive is updated for the 2030s, this is an opportunity to make sustainable choices simple, accessible, and cost-effective for everyone.

To achieve this, BEUC - The European Consumer Organisation - calls on EU policymakers to strengthen renewable energy targets beyond 2030, maintain regulatory ambition, and accelerate electrification across transport, heating, and everyday energy use. Equally important is empowering consumers: simplifying energy decisions, enabling energy sharing, supporting access to clean technologies, and ensuring fair cost distribution.
