EU-Korea Digital Trade Agreement: Bridging digital markets for the benefit of consumers
About this publication
The Digital Trade Agreement (DTA) between the European Union and Korea marks a significant step in shaping consumer rights in the digital marketplace. This agreement addresses key issues such as online consumer protection, data privacy, product safety, and redress mechanisms, aiming to build stronger trust in cross-border digital trade.
On the one hand the EU-Korea DTA brings opportunities to consumers as it could make it easier and safer to shop online. With a focus on cooperation between regulators and consumers on both sides, this agreement sets a precedent for protecting consumer interests in an increasingly digital world.
On the other hand, BEUC and Consumers Korea highlight areas needing improvement, such as stronger actions against financial scams and preserving governments’ rights to regulate digital policies in the public interest.
