Package Travel Directive - Commission proposal on the revision - BEUC position

The revision proposal of the Package Travel Directive provides for a few improvements but also shows some important gaps and flaws, which need to be remedied in the legislative process. In general we are concerned that due to the application of the principle of full harmonization, national general contract law and national rules on package travel, which represent a higher level of consumer protection than the level in the reviewed Directive, would be precluded in many instances.

• Linked Travel Arrangements (LTAs);
• Liability;
• Price increases;
• Cancellation;
• Care and assistance;
• Compensation.
