Towards the Digital Fairness Act

About this publication
Digitalisation seems to give consumers easy access to an endless number of products and services. However, it also increases the asymmetry of information and bargaining power between businesses and consumers. Every year, EU consumers lose €7.9 billion because of unfair commercial practices online like dark patterns, addictive design or unfair personalisation for example.
EU law insufficiently addresses these practices. This means that policymakers should urgently update EU consumer law. BEUC believes the upcoming Digital Fairness Act is the key tool to make this change happen.
You will find all our recommendations for this important initiative in our new position paper.
