Today, the European Commission announced that Danone has agreed to change some of its labelling practices, the last company flagged in BEUC’s greenwashing complaint to do so. BEUC and its members denounced Coca-Cola, Nestlé and Danone in November 2023, with the support of Client Earth and ECOS, for including misleading recyclability claims in bottled water. Until now, only Coca-Cola and then Nestlé had committed to make changes.

New research from Assembly Research, commissioned by BEUC, shows that privacy has real economic value and that strong enforcement of the GDPR benefits not only consumers, but businesses and the wider European economy. Strong rights help build the trust and confidence that a healthy digital economy depends on.

Today, the European Commission and the network of consumer protection authorities (CPCNetwork) announced nine coordinated enforcement actions against leading video games companies for suspected breaches of EU consumer law. The actions follow a complaint filed in 2024 by consumer organisations from the BEUC network.

The Irish Data Protection Commission has fined Google €403 million for its location-tracking activities and ordered the company to comply with the EU's GDPR within 6 months. This is an important decision, close to eight years after a series of complaints consumer organisations from the BEUC network issued against Google.
