Taking the train is a daily routine for many consumers, but it is certainly not yet a reflex for everyone when compared to the predominance of the car. And for longer trips, the plane remains the go-to choice for many. That is because there are still many barriers to rail, from inadequate timetables, lack of investment or very practical issues such as comfort, frequency, and the difficulty in buying tickets (especially cross-border).

The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) call for improvements to the quality of Europe’s rail network beyond simply calling for large-scale investments, ultimately making the train more competitive and attractive compared to other transport modes.
