Electric cars are unlikely to require battery replacement and are overall the most environmentally sound option, new BEUC research finds. This follows a 2021 study which found that electric cars are already the most financially interesting option for many consumers – and will soon be for all drivers.

On 1 June 2022, it will be exactly 2.5 years that Ms von der Leyen took over the reins of the European Commission. Halfway through this Commission term, BEUC, the European Consumer Organisation, has analysed in a new publication the consumer-related law proposals and strategies put forward since the Commission took office on 1 December 2019. We also list the actions remaining on the Commission’s to-do list, insisting on enforcement.

The European Parliament’s Environment Committee voted on proposed new targets to reduce CO2 emission from cars. Such targets are crucial to bring the climate and financial benefits of electric cars to Europeans. The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) now urges all Members of Parliament to add a specific reduction target for the year 2027 at Parliament’s plenary vote, in order to fast-track these expected benefits.
