From 1 July 2026, all imported goods into the EU will face three-euro customs duties, ending the long-standing exemption for parcels worth under €150. BEUC, the European Consumer Organisation, welcomes the move to improve product safety but warns that consumers must not be hit with unexpected charges when their purchases are delivered.

The European Parliament voted today to give consumers more protection when using the future digital euro or cash.

According to the Parliament, consumers would get basic digital euro services from their bank (or a public entity) for free, including a payment card, which is the preferred payment method for adults as our survey has shown. The Parliament also voted for stronger privacy safeguards, plus better protection when a digital euro payment goes wrong.

EU lawmakers agreed to weaken consumer safeguards against harmful chemicals in cosmetics. With this agreement to simplify EU chemicals rules, companies will benefit from longer timelines to remove cosmetic products containing ingredients that may cause cancer, gene mutations or harm reproductive health from the market.
