Today, Member States reached a deal on the EU Customs reform, which aims to address the surge in non-compliant, dangerous, and low-quality products entering the EU Single Market. BEUC welcomes Member States’ wish to strengthen customs controls and to require importers, including online marketplaces, to ensure products meet EU rules.
Press release

We welcome the action the European Commission is taking to ensure online marketplaces play by EU rules. It is now very important that the Commission monitors whether the commitments AliExpress has agreed to are respected and if they are not, the Commission should take more deterrent action. The Commission must also pursue AliExpress in the areas where it is still not complying with the law, such as on its proactive efforts to stop the sale of illegal and dangerous goods on its platform.

As the Paris Air show is in full swing, BEUC encourages the European Commission and the network of consumer protection authorities (CPC-Network) to keep investigating the airlines’ practices and agree on commitments to make their marketing more trustworthy.
