Introduction

Unfair contract terms

About

The Directive on Unfair Contract Terms addresses the imbalances in the rights and obligations of consumers and those of sellers when a contract between two parties is signed. The directive lists examples of terms that may be regarded as unfair and which are therefore not binding for consumers. It is an important piece of EU legislation which is currently going through a fitness check by the Commission (REFIT). BEUC is working to make sure consumer problems that are particular to the digital sector are properly analysed while terms and conditions are simplified and improved in their quality.
