EU telecommunication ministers reached a common position today on a certification scheme for connected products and services as well as new measures to bolster the Union’s cybersecurity agency.

Last night, negotiators of the European Parliament and Member States agreed on a sweeping reform of the EUs telecom market. It includes updated rules to protect consumers when they contract telephone, digital TV or internet access services. It also lowers prices when consumers make a phone call from their home country to another EU-country.

EU Member States today reached an agreement to update EU copyright law. The EU’s final position will be negotiated with the European Parliament who still has to decide on its position.

From 25 May onwards, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will strengthen people’s data protection rights and beef up the powers of authorities to go after companies who break the law.
