As of 1 April, consumers will be able to use online subscriptions they legally bought in their home country such as movies, sports, music, games, e-books in any country of the EU. Currently, people were often prevented from using such subscriptions the moment the user travels to another EU-country.

The European Commission proposed new EU-wide crowdfunding rules today which could have served as a solid basis to protect people who invest through crowdfunding platforms. Unfortunately, the EU licence they propose is only of interest to the platforms that operate in more than one country and, even then, remains optional.

MEPs will vote today to make it easier for consumers to buy from, or access, a website based in another EU country. Through so-called geo-blocking practices traders often prevent consumers of other EU countries purchasing products from their online shops. The new measure will enter into force later this year, forbidding discrimination of consumers based on their nationality or place of residence.
